The MABAS Division 103 Training Committee conducted RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) Training on May 1, 2010. Lake Geneva Fire Department hosted the training at the abandon Alliant Energy Building on Sheridan Springs Road. The donated structure provided excellent opportunities for wall breach, large area search and collapse simulations.
Over 30 personnel from the division attended the all day training working on locating trapped firefighters, calling a mayday, providing air supply to downed firefighters. Training followed lesson plans and guidelines of the MABAS 103 RIT Policy. Personnel became familiar with all types of SCBA and RIT supplemental air supply units.
This training was hands on, down and dirty training with everyone able to take something home.
After a lunch break, personnel broke into RIT teams and were deployed to rescue a firefighter that had declared a MAYDAY. While firefighters were putting what they learned in the morning to work, command staff worked on managing the incident on radios. All teams successfully achieved there goal the exercises proved that full Incident Management Teams are needed to successfully and safely manage an MAYDAY incident.
Great training on a great spring day - Thanks to all the progressive firefighters that attended
